DESCRIPTION

The latest film from Spanish director: lots of awards and nominations, the Antonio Banderas’ performance of life and Pedro Almodóvar with his best actors. Writing a script about an ageing cult director, Almodóvar drew a handful from his own biography, the main character Banderas wears Almodóvar’s clothes and the set design is filled with his furniture. It is mostly a story about a creative independent spirit struggling with a weakened body. Main protagonist Salvador is in a creative crisis, suffering not only physically but also mentally. He has a back- and headache, but the most troublesome is depression, severe pain of existence and lack of desire to live.

DIRECTOR
Pedro Almodóvar (1949), the internationally acclaimed Spanish director since the time of Luis Buñuel, is sometimes described as “the most off of mainstream directors”. He won Oscar twice. Almodóvar creates melodramatic tales with unbelievable stories piling up, later devoting more space to the psychology of his characters. He is one of the leading figures in Spanish “la movida madrileña”, a cultural revival after the death of General Franco. Initially, he created short films and then made his full-length debut with a feature film “Pepi, Luci, Bom and the Other Girls”. The success of the film allows him and his brother Agustín to start the El Deseo production company.
