DESCRIPTION
Thirty-year-old American woman Billi is torn between her homeland and her birth country, China. She has an unfortunate moment in his life. She was just refused a scholarship, she’s also supposed to leave her apartment. To top it all off, bad news about her beloved grandmother are coming from home. Doyen of the family, Nai Nai has little life left, she is terminally ill with cancer. The family wants to gather around her for a last goodbye, but she is not informed about her fatal condition. A pretext for a family reunion is quickly invented – a loud wedding of one of the cousins. Lulu Wang’s film shows a clash of cultures and lifestyles and asks the inevitable question: is a “white lie” right or wrong?
