DESCRIPTION
Although gender equality has long been included in the legislation, women are still victims of mobbing and abuse of power. The strike of #metoo movement inspired Kitty Green to tell a story that sadly still happens all over the world. A young girl, just a college graduate, starts to work as an assistant to an influential film producer. Julia Garner’s masterclass performance and the annoying question left, what do we keep closing our eyes to?
DIRECTOR
Kitty Green (1984), Australian documentary filmmaker and director. For her famous NETFLIX documentary “Casting on JonBenét”, she received the Australian Academy of Film and Television Arts (AACTA) Grand Prize for Best Documentary. Her documentary debut “Ukraine is not a brothel” is about the feminist movement in Ukraine. After its premiere at the Venice IFF (2013), the film was screened at more than fifty film festivals around the world, winning, among others, the award of the International Film Festival in Venice and AACTA Award for the best documentary film. The short documentary “The Face of Ukraine: Casting for Oksana Baiul” received a distinction at the Sundance Festival. “The Assistant” is her first feature film.FILMOGRAPHY
