A group of decision-makers from the highest circles of power, the clergy and businessmen meet in a hermitage guesthouse for retreats led by Catholic priests. Petri takes an insightful look at the mechanisms of power, the connection between politics, the church and the mafia, intertwining sense and philosophy, giving the whole an ironic climate.

We Still Kill the Old Way https://www.dwabrzegi.pl/en/events/we-still-kill-the-old-way/ Wed, 15 Jul 2020 17:50:43 +0000 https://www.dwabrzegi.pl/?post_type=cpt_events&p=36011 “To Each His Own” (suum cuique) is a latin maxim from the L’Osservatore Romano vignette. The letters, cut out from this magazine, were used in a death threatening anonymous letter to a pharmacist in a small Sicilian town. There are only three L’Osservatore Romano subscribers in the area, and the next day the pharmacist dies on a hunt. The situation gives no peace of mind to a left-wing teacher who is undertaking a private investigation. Elio Petri’s screenplay, for which he was awarded in Cannes (1967), was based on the motifs of Leonard Sciascia’s famous novel. Petri was one of the first Italian directors to show the close links between politics, the Church and mafia.

Tenth Victim, The https://www.dwabrzegi.pl/en/events/tenth-victim-the/ Wed, 15 Jul 2020 17:47:02 +0000 https://www.dwabrzegi.pl/?post_type=cpt_events&p=36009 There are no wars in the 21st century. The entertainment offered by the ubiquitous television has a brutal dimension. To satisfy the bloodthirsty instincts, the “Great Hunt” telethon is broadcast, in which life is at stake and fame and a million dollars are awards for the winner. Among the participants are hunters, who track and kill their victims and move on to the next round. The victims are selected at random. In the final, there is a clash between the desire for victory and more and more complicated emotions among the last two participants.
