DESCRIPTION
Brittany, 1770. A part of the dowry of the rich noblewoman Heloise is her portrait. But it has to be painted in secret from its heroine. She also does not know the details of her own planned marriage. An emancipated painter Marianne, who is supposed to pretend to be her lady for company, is hired to create the portrait. Stormy, flamboyant, painterly images. Hidden emotions, which explode with full strength. The protagonists of the film are challenging their times. The director does not give clear answers, what can be first taken as a melodrama turns out to be a full of tension thriller and switching points of view reveal further concepts.

DIRECTOR
Céline Sciamma (1978), French director and writer. She graduated from the prestigious La Fémis film school in Paris. She made her debut in 2007 with the film "Water Lilies", which was presented at the 60th edition of the Cannes IFF. She was multiple times nominated for the Caesars for her work. She is one of the most important voices of feminism in France, supporting a 50/50 initiative before 2020 on parity in the film industry.
