DESCRIPTION
Paris is not only the Eiffel Tower or the Champs-Élysées. It is also a concrete suburb that is a powder keg. One seemingly trivial event can be the spark which ignites the fire of the revolution. A provincial policeman moves to the capital to join the Montfermeil Anti-Crime Brigade. He discovers spheres of influence, full of constant tension, divided among gangs. Vibrating, tight shots follow the clashes between groups. Director Ladj Lye’s full-length debut, which has a para documental aesthetic, was this year’s French candidate for an Oscar in the Best International Feature Film category.

DIRECTOR
Ladj Ly (1978) French director and actor. Born in Mali, he has lived in Montfermeil since childhood, where the plot of his film is set. He has been documenting Montfermeil's cinematography since he was seventeen. His feature debut “Les Misérables” is an extension of the critically acclaimed short film of the same title.
