Luciano Pavarotti, son of a baker in the Italian comune of Modena, liked to describe himself as a simple man. Even when he became the most popular classical music star in the world, he never stopped seeing himself as someone ordinary, touched with an extraordinary gift. Pavarotti changed the opera from elite to egalitarian culture. In subsequent film shots, many of which have not been presented before, there are intimate interviews with a family, closest friends and co-workers and rare recordings of a genius tenor.

RON HOWARD (1954)
He is Academy Award-winning filmmaker. Howard is one of this generation’s most popular directors. From the critically acclaimed dramas A Beautiful Mind (2001) and Apollo 13 (1995) to the hit comedies Parenthood (1989) and Splash (1984), he has created some of Hollywood’s most memorable films. Howard’s portfolio includes some of the most popular films of the past 20 years, lots of them was nominated and awarded. Howard has also served as an executive producer on a number of award-winning films and television shows.

“Loving Vincent” is unique because Vincent Van Gogh was exceptional. The film is an experimental animated biographical drama about the life of the painter Vincent van Gogh, especially about the circumstances of his death. The painter wrote in one of his last letters: “Only our images can speak for us”. Van Gogh’s art told his story. This is the first fully animated feature film to be made. The film, written and directed by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman, is a Polish production financed by the Polish Film Institute, and partly by the Kickstarter campaign. Each of the 65,000 frames of the film is an oil painting on canvas, using the same technique as Van Gogh, created by a team of 125 painters.

DOROTA KOBIELA (1978)
Polish filmmaker, screenwriter and producer. A graduate from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Through friends Dorota discovered animation and film, and immediately threw herself into learning these new artistic disciplines, attending The Warsaw Film School, Direction Faculty. For her sixth animated short “Loving Vincent” Dorota aimed to combine her passion for painting and film. “Loving Vincent” is her feature film debut.

HUGH WELCHMAN (1975)
He graduated with a degree from Oxford University in Politics, Philosophy and Economics. In 2002, Welchman founded the film company BreakThru Films. Behind the mighty eighteenth-century wall of the oldest enclosed convent in Poland – Benedictine convent in Staniatki, near Krakow – the life of twelve nuns in their 70s goes on. Despite their age and the world of rapid change, they try to comply with the rule set over ten centuries ago ‘ORA et LABORA’ each day. Our protagonists – nuns Anuncjata and Benedykta (40 years in convent) – introduce us to the world behind the wall telling us about their lives and decisions in a specific way. They show us the world of convent in true colours, without stereotypes, often touching and amusing at the same time. This is the film about silence said aloud.
